Grown with organic practices by Nick and Helen Vrees at their Blewitt Springs property. These old Shiraz vines (90 yo and 50 yo) thrive in the deep sandy soils of this area. Crops are low and competition with weeds etc is minimal due to the deep, quick draining sand and the grazing of sheep in the off-season. The 2022 vintage was a cool one, resulting in delicate, floral reds with moderate alcohol.
The grapes were handpicked by the Vrees family and friends and brought to the winery for fermentation as 100% whole bunches. The fruit was gently wild fermented with no additions and a maceration time of six weeks. The resulting wine was pressed to seasoned French Hogs Heads and matured on lees for ten months. The wine was then hand bottled at the winery with a small sulphur addition.
