Planted by us at Kuitpo in 1997 and grown with largely organic practices. The vines respond well to the moderate daytime temperature of the Southern Adelaide Hills combined with cooling coastal breezes at night. The soils are composed of rich ironstone, sandstone and quartz. The 2022 vintage was late and cool, resulting in light-medium bodied wines with lifted aromatics and brilliant acidity.
The Merlot was hand-picked and fermented at the winery as 50% whole bunches. The fruit was gently wild fermented with no additions and a maceration time of two weeks. The resulting wine was pressed to seasoned French Hogs Heads and matured on lees for ten months. The wine was then hand bottled at the winery with a small sulphur addition.
